About KAI and Denovo Systems
KAI is built by Denovo Systems Limited, in Kitwe, Zambia. It began as a tool for the paperwork on our own desks.
Why it exists
Denovo files tax returns, runs payrolls and keeps businesses compliant. All three are, in practice, reading.
Every one of those jobs starts with a pile of documents that already contain the answer — invoices, receipts, bank statements, ZRA notices — and ends with somebody typing figures out of them into a spreadsheet. It is slow, it is the part nobody wants, and a mistyped digit is not visible afterwards. There is nothing in a finished spreadsheet that says which page a number came from.
KAI does that first pass and, unlike a person retyping, it keeps its working: every value it produces carries the page it was read from and the exact words on that page. The point is not that the machine never misreads a receipt. The point is that when it does, you can see it in seconds instead of reconciling backwards from a total.
That is also why it says plainly what it does not do — it does not score its own confidence, and it does not check anyone’s arithmetic. A tool that reads figures off your invoices and is vague about its own limits is asking to be trusted for things it cannot do.
